Joining Foundation Program (FP) involves studying the entire section of a book and trying to attend all classes, one of which is an end-of-term exam. Foundation Program (FP) classes offer systematic study, discussion and meditation practice. These are based on six of Geshe Kelsang’s extraordinary books in order to:

  • Develop our wisdom
  • Cultivate a good heart
  • Maintain a peaceful state of mind
  • Solve all our problems
  • Transform our lives

There are currently these FP programs:

THE FOUNDATION PROGRAM at the Dandenong Ranges Temple

taught by Resident Teacher Gen Kelsang Dornying

Many Buddhist practitioners have a sincere wish to deepen their knowledge and experience of Dharma and to gain authentic spiritual realisations through a structured program of Dharma studies. The Foundation Program is designed to fulfil this wish. It provides a systematic presentation of the basic subjects of Mahayana Buddhism and forms a perfect basis for a strong daily practice.

Our present understanding and experience of Dharma is quite superficial. There is a big gap between our mind and Dharma and we cannot apply Dharma in our daily lives. Our approach remains passive, like someone watching television, and our mind remains as uncontrolled as before. Why is this? It is because we are not studying systematically, according to a specially designed program. If we just pick at Dharma randomly we shall never gain deep and stable experience. For this reason the foundation program is very important.Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Join the Foundation Program (FP) with Gen Kelsang Dornying – studying Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s extraordinary book How to Understand the Mind – and gain deep insight into your mind. Improve your life by gaining an understanding of the nature and functions of your mind and applying this understanding to your everyday experiences.

The first part of this book is a practical guide to developing and maintaining a light, positive mind. The second part describes different types of mind in detail, revealing the depth and profundity of the Buddhist understanding of the mind.

Joining FP involves enrolling for a section of the book and attending all the classes, one of which is an end of term exam. Each class consists of prayers, a guided meditation, teaching and discussion. Students from our Darwin or Tasmania branches can join our correspondence study program – please click here for more information.
